   LUNAR NEW YEARS CELEBRATION was Friday. It is the year of the rooster! It was really a great event.  Our students were paired up with their Upper and Middle School Buddies and participated in a lot of fun activities. Thank you to the Upper School Mandarin students and Ms. Yun He for a fabulous event




LOWER/MIDDLE SCHOOL CONFERENCES  Thursday, February 16 and Friday February 17.  There is NO SCHOOL for Lower and Middle Schools February 17 for conferences.

1. The First and Fourth Graders paired together to do a fascinating STEM project.  They learned so much and had so much fun doing it!

3. All the research is showing that children do not have to always work at their desks.  They should work wherever they are comfortable and can concentrate.

We hope to see you Wednesday, January 25, 2017. It is PREVIEW NIGHT.  This is the night you get to meet your children's teachers for next year and hear all about the exciting curriculum, projects and activities that they are planning for them. 

Light refreshments begin at 5:15PM in the Multi-Purpose Room. The program will be from 5:30 until 6:30.  EDP will be open until the end of the program, but we do need to know how many children will be staying for staffing purposes. We will also be serving them pizza.  You can sign up at www.roycemoreschool.org/previewnight.  

PARENT COFFEE TUESDAY, JANUARY 24 8:15 AM
Join the Roycemore Healthy Living Committee in an informal chat and coffee.  The discussion will be led by Carl Hopman (Juliette Gr.1) and will talk about all things related to healthy living. Sponsored by the Roycemore Family Association. They hope to see all of you there.

   1. This is a bittersweet week, as the faculty, parents  and children said good-bye to Mrs. Abby Ludwig as the birth of her twins is coming soon.  Mrs. Ludwig may or may not be here next week. We all wish her well and will miss her!

  2.  The Fourth Graders participated in a trading simulation between Native Americans and the Europeans as part of their study of American history.




   3. The rain forced us inside for recess, but we still had fun!

CENTER FOR TALENT DEVELOPMENT (CTD) TESTING: Because of our association with CTD, for testing for CTD classes for entry into their Spring and Summer programs,  Judy Wahl, our gifted coordinator can administer the test, and it is free for Roycemore students.  If you would like your child to partake in the CTD classes please email Judy Wahl at jwahl@roycemoreschool.org and she will schedule a time to test your child.

 Lots of learning is taking place in Lower School:
   1.  The Junior Kindergarten kids were working in their small groups.Some of them were  using counters and writing equations!


  Another group was writing and illustrating a winter story.



    While the children in a third group were making igloos.  They were estimating how many sugar cubes or mini marshmallows they would use.  They counted at the end to see if their prediction was correct.


2. The First Graders are making their own "How To" books. 

   3.  The Pre-Kindergarteners were acting out a story and then going on a "bear hunt."

AFTER-SCHOOL ENRICHMENT:
All enrichment activities start this week. We still have spaces in all of our clubs and activities.  If your child would like to attend and you have not signed them up, you may still do so. I have attached all the flyers to the email accompanying the blog. 

Please remember there is NO SCHOOL on Monday, January 16 to honor Dr. Martin Luther King.  Our Extended Day Program will be available for those of you who need child care.  Mrs. Beaugrand and Ms. Floyd have planned a fun-filled day for the students.  The field trip is to Little Beans Cafe. I have attached a flyer to the email accompanying the blog.
